Two Car Crashes Within Hour Hospitalize Warren Man, Three Others

A Bristol ambulance got stuck in traffic on its way to help one of the drivers who was suffering from life-threatening injuries.

SWANSEA, MA — Police are investigating two car crashes that occurred within an hour of each other Sunday afternoon which left a Warren man, his passenger and a Providence man hospitalized as well as a Swansea Police officer.

Swansea Police first arrived after receiving multiple calls about a head-on collision between two cars near Johnson's Roadside Market on Market Street.

An ambulance from the Bristol Fire Department got stuck in traffic from the crash on its way to help one of the drivers who was suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said. Swansea Police identified the driver as Gabriel Perez, of Providence.

Perez was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

An Ambulance from Swansea then arrived to help the other driver, William Fernandes, of Warren and a woman who was in the car with him. Both were brought to South Coast Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts for treatment.

While trying to reach the Market Street crash, Swansea Police Officer Eric Thibault ended up in a car crash himself.

Police said he collided with a car that was trying to turn left on Stoney Hill Road. The Officer struck the other car in the left front fender, which sent it into a small stone wall.

Thibault suffered minor injuries and was taken to South Coast Hospital. The driver of the other car was not hurt.
