Waterfire Live-Streams 'Beacon of Hope' Memorial
A haunting exhibit for Rhode Island lives lost to COVID-19

Created under the direction of WaterFire founder Barnaby Evans, WaterFire's new art installation is nothing short of heartbreaking, and hauntingly beautiful.
"The WaterFire Beacon of Hope", live-streamed 24 hours a day via WaterFire Providence's Twitch Channel, pays tribute to Rhode Island lives lost to COVID-19 and our community heroes.
Surrounding the solitary brazier are a field of luminaria, each memorializing a Rhode Island soul lost to COVID-19. Each evening at 8:30 p.m., when we would be gathering by the fires on the river, we will light and set out an additional luminaria for each life reported lost that day
The exhibit consists of a WaterFire brazier, illuminated and surrounded by flickering luminaria, each representing a Rhode Islander lost to the Coronavirus. The artwork, which also includes a field of stars overhead set to an official WaterFire soundtrack, is being live-streamed 24 hours a day. Although the installation graces the Main Hall of the WaterFire Arts Center, due to current social distancing guidelines, it can only be viewed online.
