Bay View Swim Team Takes Home Top Honors At Championships

Junior Gianna Spremullo broke both a school and personal record with her 100-yard backstroke.

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The St. Mary Academy Bay View Academy swim team took home top honors in this year's championships. The team broke several school and personal records at the competition.

Gianna Spremullo, a junior from Cranston, won two gold medals for the second year in a row at the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. Spremullo won both the 200-yard individual medley with a time of two minutes, 4.59 seconds, and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.07 seconds, breaking the school records she herself set last year.

At the Division II state championships, the Bay View 200-yard relay team comprised of Spremullo, Juliana Goncalves of Rehoboth, Olesya Tamburro of Cumberland and Melina Cabral of Seekonk won second place and broke the school record with their time of one minute, 52.72 seconds. Out of the 25 teams, the Bengals came in sixth.
