Cranston Police Charge Man With Selling Fentanyl

Three detectives became ill after the arrest due to proximity to the drug. They were treated at the hospital and went back to work.

CRANSTON, RI—A raid Wednesday on an apartment near Cranston High East netted one arrest, plus $29,000 cash, and narcotics, police said Friday. According to Col. Michael Winquist, the police chief, detectives had obtained a search warrant for the second floor apartment at 352 Pontiac Ave. Police allege Thoeniz Oun, 28, of Cranston, was selling drugs there. The property is about 3oo feet away from the high school.

Oun was arrested as he was leaving his house, police said. Inside, police said they found "approximately 16 grams of fentanyl, 31 grams of 'crack' cocaine, 16 grams of heroin mixed with suspected fentanyl, a 45 caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, $29,000 in United States currency, as well as assorted packaging materials and instruments consistent with narcotics trafficking."

Oun was arraigned in district court on Thursday and charged with these offenses:

  • Possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver
  • Possession of cocaine with intent to deliver
  • Possession of heroin with intent to deliver
  • Distribution of a controlled substance near a school
  • Carrying a dangerous weapon when committing a crime of violence

He is being held without bail pending a hearing Aug. 23.

Winquist said three detectives had to be treated at Rhode Island Hospital for fentanyl exposure. They returned to work.
