Cranston Schools Move To Distance Learning Until January

CRANSTRON, RI — As coronavirus cases continue to spike across Rhode Island, Cranston schools are moving to fully distanced learning until the end of the calendar year.

Virtual learning will start on Thursday and continue until at least Jan. 4, school officials said in an announcement. The decision was made because of the surge in coronavirus cases in Rhode Island and the difficulty of keeping schools fully staffed, WPRI reported.

The announcement came as Rhode Island's field hospitals accept patients from completely filled hospitals, and the state struggles to find enough health care workers to staff the facilities. At the same time, nonprofit organization COVID ActNow had Rhode Island at the top of its list of states with the highest number of daily coronavirus cases per 100,000 people.
