Cranston Woman Named 'Caregiver Of The Year'

Noris Castillo was commended for making decisions that prioritized her mother's best interests.

CRANSTON, RI—A Cranston woman has won recognition for taking excellent care of her elderly mother, so she can stay at home. The Rhode Island Family Caregiver Alliance of Rhode Island and the Division of Elderly Affairs last week named Noris Castillo the “Family Caregiver of the Year.” According to the PACE Organization of Rhode Island, Castillo's mother and family were by her side at the Statehouse for the award ceremony.

“Noris takes care of her mother with dedication, strength, and grace. At every turn, and every decision, Noris does not make the easy decisions for herself. She makes the right decisions for her mother’s mental and physical wellbeing – even if that means her life will be more challenged as a result,” says Kristen Auger, social worker.

Castillo works with PACE on her mother's care plan, according to Joan Kwiatikowski , chief executive officer of PACE RI. “Our care plans involve a strong partnership with our participants and their caregivers. Noris has gone above and beyond for her mother, and entire family. She deserves this honor greatly.”
