Cumberland Man Seriously Injured In Overnight Route 146 Crash

Police believe the man was trying to cross the road just after midnight when he was hit by a car in the high speed lane.

NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI — A Cumberland resident was seriously injured while walking on Route 146 North early Tuesday morning, state police said. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Adam Belhumeur, of Cumberland.

The crash happened just after midnight, police said, about 2,000 feet south of the Sayles Hill Avenue intersection. Police believe Belhumeur was crossing the road when he was hit by a car in the high speed lane. He was seriously injured and taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is in stable but serious condition.

The driver stopped right away and did not show any signs of impairment, according to police. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call state police at 401-444-1000.
