DCYF Rules Neglect Contributed To Deaths Of Providence Girls

The sisters, aged 7 and 2, died following a fire at their Providence home in late December.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Neglect contributed to the death of two young girls in a Providence house fire late last year, the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families reported Friday. The family did not have any prior connection with the department.

The two sisters, aged 7 and 2, died after a fire in their Lucy Street home Dec. 22. Both were found unconscious on the second floor of the home and were rushed to Hasbro Children's hospital, where the 7-year-old died from her injuries. Her younger sister died that weekend after spending days in critical condition.

According to the DCYF's investigation, neglect contributed to the girls' deaths. No further information about the investigation was disclosed due to privacy concerns.
