PROVIDENCE, RI — Independence Day has arrived, and although Southern New England's weather is far from summery, many are still celebrating with backyard barbecues, town celebrations and fireworks displays. Because July 4 falls on a holiday this year, most businesses and services are observing the holiday the following day, on Monday.

- Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
- Liquor stores: Open
- Supermarkets: Open
- Convenience stores: Open
- Restaurants, bars: Open at owner's discretion, though many close on Mondays anyway
- Banks: Closed
- Libraries: Closed
- Stock market: Open
- Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed
- Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only
- RIPTA: Regular weekday schedule
- Trash Collection: Most towns with pickup are delayed by one day. Check with your local public works department if you're unsure.
