Mayor Fung Scotches Soccer Field Deal
Many residents didn't like the idea of using the Doric Avenue park for organized soccer, so the mayor's dropping the plan.

CRANSTON, RI—The Doric Avenue soccer field plan is dead, the mayor's office said Friday.
“After much consideration and many conversations with constituents, I have decided to not go forward with the plan to license the use of the soccer field at Doric Avenue," Mayor Allan Fung said in a statement. "As a result, I have asked the City Council President to withdraw the proposed agreement with New England Futbol Club from consideration."
“I still believe that the plan would have been a great opportunity to realize a major investment in a city park and a benefit to the community. However, as mayor, I always listen to my constituents and appreciate their input on any issue.
