Police Identify Man Found Dead Near Cranston Bike Path

There were no immediate signs of foul play in the man's death, police said.

CRANSTON, RI — Police identified the man who was found dead near the Cranston bike path on Friday afternoon as 61-year-old Gary Merritt.

The body was found just before 4 p.m. on Friday, down an embankment from the bike path near Oaklawn Avenue, police said.

According to Cranston police, Merritt was homeless, and there were no signs of foul play in his death. An autopsy will be conducted this week.
