PPAC To Delay All Shows Until Fall 2021

PROVIDENCE, RI — Bad news, Broadway fans. Rhode Island's Great White Way will remain dark until this time next year.

On Wednesday, the president and CEO of the Providence Performing Arts Center announced that the theater will not reopen in January, as planned, and will instead present its Broadway series starting in late fall 2021. A new schedule has not been announced for the slate of hit shows, which include Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton and Jesus Christ Superstar.

The theater has been closed to the public since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in March. In May, President J.L. Singleton said the season was set to resume in January.

PPAC is not the only theater in Rhode Island to close its doors for the near future. Providence's Trinity Repertory Company moved its annual staging of A Christmas Carol online, while Warwick's Gamm Theatre announced in October that it would delay Season 36 until fall 2021.
