Rhode Island Gas Prices Down 3 Cents Again
AAA Northeast believes a sudden gas spike may be imminent following an attack on two oil facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Gas prices continue to fall in Rhode Island, though that may not be the case for long. Over the past week, the average cost per gallon fell three cents to $2.49. However, a recent attack on two oil facilities in Saudi Arabia could cause a short-term price spike, AAA Northeast said Monday.
"Right now, AAA is forecasting that Americans can expect local pump prices to start to increase this week," Diana Imondi, AAA Northeast Manager of Public Affairs & Traffic Safety. "Whether this is a short or long term trend will be determined by the price of crude oil and how quickly the facilities in Saudi Arabia can recover. Damage to the facilities is still being assessed, but there is no word if it will be days, weeks, or even months before the infrastructure in repaired and back online."
Over the course of the month, prices could spike as much as a quarter per gallon, AAA said. Last week's attack took six percent of the global oil supply off of the market. For now, Rhode Island is not seeing an impact.
