Rhode Island Gas Prices Jump 7 Cents

The average cost per gallon is now $2.57, 15 cents higher than this time last year.

Rhode Island gas prices suddenly jumped seven cents over the last week, AAA Northeast reported. The average cost for a gallon of gas in the state is now $2.57.

The national average is just one penny higher at $2.58. This time last year, the average price in Rhode Island was $2.42, 15 cents less.

"Crude oil prices are moving higher following the death of Iran’s top military leader, and was to be expected," said Lloyd Albert, the senior vice president of public and government affairs at AAA. "The long-term impact to consumers at the pump will be dependent on how expensive crude oil prices become and the duration of any increase."

Across the state, gas prices range 21 cents from $2.45 at the low end to $2.79.
