PROVIDENCE, RI — Gas prices in Rhode Island continue to fall, dropping an average of three cents per gallon over the past week. The average cost for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas is now $1.84.

The downward trend continued after a one-cent average increase last week. The falling prices mean the current average is nearly a dollar less than this time last year, when the price was 93 cents higher at $2.86 per gallon.

"Pump prices are fluctuating throughout the country as demand increases and gasoline stocks decrease," A spokesperson for AAA Northeast said. "The boost in demand continues to push pump prices up around the country, as more states re-open businesses. Motorists in the Great Lakes, Central, South and Southeast states are seeing the most volatility at the pump."
