RI Named In Top 10 Safest States During Coronavirus: WalletHub
Rhode Island ranked well for vaccination, hospitalization and testing rates, among other categories.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island was named one of the safest states during the coronavirus pandemic in a new ranking by WalletHub. To determine the ranking, the personal finance website compared the rates of five key metrics: vaccination, positive testing, hospitalization, death and transmission.
Overall, Rhode Island ranked 10 in the country, scoring above-average in each of the five categories.
- Vaccinate rate: 12
- Positive testing rate: 4
- Hospitalization rate: 11
- Death rate: 17
- Transmission rate: 18
Rhode Island fared better than its New England neighbors. Massachusetts was near the bottom at 43, while New Hampshire was near the bottom at 23. Vermont was the only New England state to rank higher than the Ocean State, coming in at number seven.

Alaska earned the top spot, followed by New Mexico and Hawaii. At the bottom of the list was Georgia, followed by New York and Florida.
Rhode Island fared especially well in a comparison of death rates and vaccination rates. The state was coded green — or good — due to its high vaccine rate and relatively low death rate.
