RI Utility Costs Highest In Continental U.S.: Report

Rhode Island residents have the highest utility bills in the continental U.S., dishing out an average of $522 per month for gas, electricity and related costs, according to a new report from Move.org. All six New England states ranked in the T0p 10 nationwide.

Move.org broke down each state’s utility costs, including electricity, natural gas, internet, cable and water. For electricity, natural gas and internet costs, the publication took into account state costs. For cable and water, where no state-by-state information was available, Move.org relied on national averages.

According to the report, Rhode Island ranked No. 3 nationally, with average monthly costs for:

Electricity: $163.52 (9th in the country)
Natural Gas: $141.04 (4th)
Internet (60 Mbps): $77.42 (2nd)
Cable: $100 (national average): $100
Water: $40 (national average) $40
Total Cost: $521.98
