RIP Amber, The Roger Williams Park Giraffe

Amber, a Masai giraffe, was 26, the oldest Masai giraffe in North America.

PROVIDENCE, RI— The Roger Williams Zoo on Tuesday said Amber, a Masai giraffe, has died. She was 26, the oldest Masai giraffe in North America. The zoo is accepting tributes to her on its Facebook page, saying "if you have remembrances of Amber that you would like to share, please post your photos and thoughts here or visit the Zoo's Textron Elephant and Giraffe Pavilion to write on her tribute board." The giraffe was blind and in deteriorating health, the zoo explained. Veterinarians helped her cope with the loss of sight; but when other problems compromised her ability to stay comfortable, they made the sad decision to put her down.
