According to the Associated Press, the issue was caused by AeroData, an outside company that makes aircraft location technology. Southwest Airlines grounded its fleet for about 40 minutes and was back in the air by 7 a.m., the Associated Press continued, but the damage was already done, and the ripple effects have caused travel delays throughout the morning.

United Airlines said that about 150 of its flights had been affected, the Associated Press reported, and while Delta was forced to delay several flights from leaving on time, it does not expect any cancellations.
