Thanksgiving Guidance Coming For Rhode Island

Gov. Gina Raimondo said she will announce guidance for Thanksgiving at this week's news conference.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Gov. Gina Raimondo will announce guidance for Thanksgiving during Thursday's news conference at 1 p.m.

The governor may also announce further restrictions for the state as coronavirus cases continue to climb. On Wednesday, Rhode Island again surpassed its daily record for new cases with 1,280. In addition, the state saw its highest number of coronavirus patients in the hospital since May.

On Tuesday, the governor's office announced that Raimondo's weekly news conferences, which have been held on Wednesday for several months, will be moved to Thursdays going forward, since more people were able to watch them in the past two weeks. Next week, she will speak to the public on Wednesday because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Earlier this month, the governor urged all Rhode Islanders to keep their Thanksgiving gatherings small and local, ideally only with members of the immediate household. Last week, Raimondo said a stay-at-home order was likely for the state on Thanksgiving to discourage large family gatherings.

Tune in to the governor's press conference at 1 p.m., which is streamed live on Facebook.
