Last Day To Vote For Ruby: American Hero Dog Contest
Ruby's a finalist in the Search and Rescue category. She was at the RI SPCA until state police trained her in search and rescue.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI—Ruby sat in the dog shelter on death row, not too long ago. According to Rhode Island State Police, she'd had a rough start in life, and a couple of failed adoption attempts seemingly had sealed her fate. But then a state police trooper and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals teamed up. They gave her another chance to make good as a working dog. The idea was to pair her with a K-9 police officer and harness her energy for a good cause. She became a search and rescue dog.
Now, she's a finalist for the American Humane Hero Dog award in the search and rescue category.
Ruby saved a young boy's life when he went missing in the woods in Glocester. It turned out the boy's mother had a connection with the dog. The woman knew Ruby from the time she had been a volunteer at the RI SPCA shelter. Then Ruby found her son.
