Voting By Mail: Take The RI Patch Survey
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a surge in mail-in ballots is expected for the Nov. 3 election.

RHODE ISLAND — Among the thorniest questions raised by the coronavirus pandemic is that of conducting elections, with voters worrying whether they can visit polling places Nov. 3 without exposing themselves to the disease. For that reason, record numbers of people are expected to cast their ballots by mail.
"Voting from home is a safe and secure option, especially during this pandemic,"Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea said previously.
Recent operational changes within the U.S. Postal Service, however, including the elimination of overtime for postal workers and the decommissioning of mail-sorting machines, have reportedly led to widespread delays in delivering mail and raised fears that mailed-in ballots will not be delivered in time to be counted.
