Avengers' Alum Move Up To College Ranks
Here is a list of East Greenwich High grads now playing the college game.

EAST GREENWICH, RI—East Greenwich High grads are making their mark in college sports. Here is a roundup of some successful players.
BRANDON ECKLES, a Springfield College senior, has had quite a nice run playing for The Pride. As a freshman he played in 26 games averaging 4.6 points and 3.4 rebounds with a best of 18 points and 9 rebounds in a win against Vassar. Sophomore year, he started 19 of 25 games averaging 7 points and 3.8
rebounds a game with a career best of 20 points versus Western New England. In his junior year Brandon started 15 of 27 games averaging 22 minutes per game. Again he averaged 7 points a contest and pulled down 4.9 boards. His senior season just started, and through two games he is averaging 10 points per outing and 5 rebounds. The 6-7, 235 Eckles is majoring in Communications and Sports Journalism.
SKYLAR FONTAINE, a freshman defender for the Northeastern University Women's hockey team, is having a good season for the Red & Black Huskies. Against Clarkson early in the season she scored her first goal and blocked four shots. Versus the University of New Hampshire she had a pair of assists in the NU win, and had the game winning goal in the victory over University of Maine. Skylar also had a goal against Boston College, which was second in the national rankings. Miss Fontaine played on the boys team at EGHS and starred for the Belle Tire team that won the Tier-1 State title.
LAURA MURPHY, the East Greenwich High senior, has gotten tons of national recognition and exposure as she was chosen a National Finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman. The All State track and field star appeared on ESPN recently and got quite a bit of screen time at the Heisman Award ceremony and National Award Banquet. Miss Murphy received a Gold Medal, a $100 Wendy's certificate and a $5000 college scholarship.
HARRISON LEONARD, a former East Greenwich resident, and now a junior at Avon Old Farms Prep School, is ranked the #7 kicker in the country. He kicks off to the end line and his punts are in the 40-50 yard range. He has already had feelers from Tulane and Sacred Heart Universities' football programs.
JACKSON CRONIN, a freshman at George Washington University majoring in Business Administration, ran an 8:43.87 3000m at the Navy Invitational.
KATIE SWANSON, former East Greenwich High lacrosse standout, is a member of the lacrosse team at Union College in Schenectady, NY. She appeared in three games this past fall.
