The work has been paused due to issues with the temporary bridge carrying Division Street over Route 4.
The crash took place at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday on Middle Road.
All East Greenwich Fire Department emergency vehicles have been called to the scene.

The RI Department of Transportation will close I-95 South Exit 9 to Route 4 South in East Greenwich during overnight hours this week.
Exit 9, which branches to Route 4 South will close overnight Monday through Thursday.
The shift on Route 4 near the I-95 interchange will begin Monday night at 9 as part of bridge-replacement project.
An issue with the left-turn arrow caused major delays at the already-busy intersection.
The road will be down to one alternating lane to allow for overnight construction. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
Only the southbound lane will be detoured during construction, which is expected to last about two months.
A water main break caused the disruption, which is expected to last until Tuesday, according to the town's website.
The drivers are entitled to make a claim for damages, the state said.
