Creating A Community Through Music:
Representing the empowered students at East Greenwich High School, a passionate group of singers performed Holiday Carols on Friday, December 22nd at James H. Eldredge Elementary School at the Teen Center, a Friday night gathering run by Bob Houghtaling. This event brought members of the community together through the power of music. For some carols, the Chorus Club invited the audience to come and sing. It was a time to unite everyone in something uplifting and holiday themed. The Chorus Club also conveyed the message that no matter what challenges may arise in life, that you must push through and continue fighting for what is right. The Chorus Club hopes to inspire everyone to never give up.
The EGHS students organized a student run Chorus Club because their Choral Program is no longer funded. The group would like to thank everyone who has supported the EGHS Choral Program. The Chorus Club hopes that their efforts towards keeping the Choral Program alive at EGHS will make a difference. Together they not only advocate for the restoration of their Choral Program, but for the Choral Program that future students will enjoy. As The Chorus Club Director states, "Music has changed my life in many ways. It has taught me discipline, self-confidence and it allowed me to meet many new people and create friendships along the way. I hope that future students will have access to a chorus class at school, which is why I will never stop fighting for music education." Abby White, 16, Junior.

Another member details, "Music bridges cultures, time periods and individuals-it is an inherently beautiful thing." Miguel Figueroa, 15, Freshman.
The Chorus Club has also performed at the Cole Music Department concert, Shoreside Apartment, Barnes and Noble, Town Council/School Committee meeting and door-to-door Christmas Caroling. They love performing and hope that Chorus will be offered as a credited class at EGHS so they can perform in the music department concerts.

If you would like to support these students, please email the club director, Abby White at abbywhite521@gmail.com. In the spring they hope to put on their own chorus concert and need the continued support of the community in this endeavor. Article by Abby White.
