Dog Abandoned by Rapper DMX Now Adopted

The dog went home Thursday with a firefighter.

WARWICK, RI—Once Rapper DMX's dog, a young pit bull has left a Warwick boarding kennel for a new life.

X went home on Thursday with his new Dad, who's a firefighter, according to Charles Callahan of Rhode Island Animal Medical Center.

"I don't want to give any names," Callahan said, due to the notoriety about the rapper, but X will be staying in Rhode Island.

"We found a really nice owner," Callahan said. X will have a yard at his new forever home. He'll also maybe go to the firehouse every now and again. The firefighter is an experienced dog owner.

The dog seemed pretty happy with the new arrangement, Callahan said.

"He very pleased to go on his way," Callahan said and added X was neutered on Thursday before he left Warwick.

Callahan found the dog a new home after X had been abandoned at his kennel for months.

DMX left the dog at the Four Paws Pet Resort last year, said Callahan, who also owns the medical center.

The rapper dropped the dog off at the kennel in August, was supposed to come for him in October, but never did and never paid the bill.

Callahan made repeated attempts to deal with DMX, and there was contact as recently as two weeks ago.

People identifying themselves as DMX's new manager called.

"They said they were going to adopt X out to another owner," Callahan said, but he had concerns given talk about animal abuse.

He told the manager "we highly recommend you do not bring" X back to DMX. Then the manager disappeared. At that point, Callahan decided to go ahead with the adoption to the firefighter, he said.
