Dog Bites Firefighter During Icy East Greenwich Water Rescue

As East Greenwich firefighter was bitten by a dog he helped save near Brisas Circle on Sunday.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — The East Greenwich firefighters union said one of its members will need plastic surgery after he was bit in the face by a dog he saved near Brisas Circle on Sunday morning. The East Greenwich Fire Fighters Association said the firefighter was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and was recovering Sunday night.

East Greenwich fire responded to the report of a man and a dog who had fallen through the ice late Sunday morning. The man fell through when he was attempting to retrieve the dog, which was in trouble.

The man was pulled to shore safely with a rope, but when the firefighter ventured out about 100 feet to attempt to secure the dog he was bitten in the face. The dog then made it to shore safely on its own.
