East Bay Community Action Program to Honor Local Law Student

East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) will recognize Tyler Pare, 25, of East Greenwich RI, as one of its 2019 Vision Award recipients at the agency’s 16th Annual Seaside Gala at Castle Hill Inn in Newport, RI on Thursday, June 13, 2019. Joining Pare as 2019 EBCAP Vision Award recipients are Sergeant Jason Canario, Warren Police Department; and community newspaper, Newport This Week.

Each year, EBCAP presents Vision Awards to individuals/organizations who have made a profound impact on the agency, the lives of its clients, and the surrounding community. Pare, a Roger Williams University (RWU) law student, is being recognized for his commitment and dedication as a volunteer tax preparer for EBCAP’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Since 2017, Pare has volunteered more than 188 hours, serving as a greeter, a quality reviewer, and tax preparer. He has provided invaluable service to clients and directed them through the stressful process of preparing and filing their income tax returns. Kim Wetherald, Program Manager of EBCAP’s Office of Volunteer Services states, “Tyler’s leadership ability, knowledge of tax law, and skills contributed greatly to the success of the VITA program.” Pare will graduate from Roger Williams University School of Law on May 17 with a Doctor of Law Degree and has already secured a job as a law clerk for the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

East Bay Community Action Program also announced that Rhode Island Governor Gina M. Raimondo is serving as EBCAP’s 16th Annual Seaside Gala Honorary Event Chairperson, as well as receiving its 2019 Public Service Award. Governor Raimondo is being honored for her vision and leadership in expanding early childhood education, improving addiction treatment and recovery programs, and ensuring that all Rhode Islanders have access to quality healthcare.

The leading corporate sponsor for EBCAP’s 16th Annual Seaside Gala is Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island. Castle Hill Inn and BankNewport are also lending support to the event. The fundraising portion of EBCAP’s 16th Annual Seaside Gala will feature an online auction, offering a variety of dining, hotel stays, travel, family fun, sports tickets, spa, and sporting packages. Auction items are available for preview now at biddingforgood.com/EBCAP. Some of the featured items will include: a seven-day Holland America Line Cruise for two people, a round of golf for four people at Newport Country Club, and a one-week stay in August at the Wyndham Inn on the Harbor in Newport. The auction opens for bidding on May 30 and closes on June 13. All are welcome to register and bid. Guests of the gala will be able to use their mobile devices to continue the bidding during the event.
