New Sports Writers Report on East Greenwich Girls Swimmers

EAST GREENWICH, RI—The Avengers girls swim team finished the regular season with a 4-4 record and ranked fifth in the Division I league standings, according to the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.

The post-season Divisions were held this past weekend. The girls' and boys' teams both competed in Division I. The girls took sixth place, and the boys' team took fifth.

East Greenwich has 11 girls and six boys who qualified to swim at the state championships. They will represent the school this weekend at Brown.

One of the season's best performances came at the Bay View Invitational at Brown University, where the team placed third overall. A highlight of that meet was the 200 Medley Relay, swum by Selin Marino (backstroke), Lauren Salvadore (breaststroke), Meghan O’Brien (butterfly), and Audrey Bretcher (freestyle). That group placed second to Prout with a time of 1:53.31 minutes.

Selin, Lauren, Meghan and Audrey have been on the swim team since their freshman year and have contributed to the squad’s success. According to their teammates, the four girls are all dedicated, hardworking swimmers, and have been swimming this relay together for the past three years.
