East Greenwich Firefighters Deliver Baby In Back Of Ambulance

The East Greenwich Fire Department earned its "first stork" early Tuesday morning.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — Babies are famous for arriving at inconvenient times, a fact East Greenwich emergency responders learned firsthand Tuesday morning. Around 2 a.m., firefighters delivered a boy in the back of an ambulance.

According to the East Greenwich Firefighter's Association, the town's Engines One and Two, along with Rescue One, were called to Interstate 95 southbound at Exit 8 early Tuesday. On the way to the hospital, a "healthy, happy" baby boy was delivered in the back of the ambulance.

"Mom and baby are doing well!!" the association wrote on Facebook. "Great job by Lieutenant Matola, Lieutenant Bailey, Firefighter Stabile and Firefighter Howard on earning East Greenwich Fire Department's first Stork!!"
