East Greenwich Site Completes First Round Of Coronavirus Vaccines

The Swift Community Center has administered approximately 1,700 first doses of the vaccine.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — The East Greenwich regional coronavirus vaccination site at Swift Community Center finished its first round of vaccines on Tuesday and will begin administering the second dose of the vaccine from Jan. 25 through Feb. 9, according to the town's Facebook page.

The East Greenwich POD (point of distribution) began administering the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, first responders, school nurses, and POD workers on Dec. 28 and has vaccinated between 275 to 300 people per day for a total of approximately 1,700 vaccinations.

Rhode Island is currently in Phase 1 of its vaccine distribution plan, which also includes primary care and outpatient providers, dentists, morticians, funeral home workers, and residents are 75 and older.

The Town of East Greenwich anticipates it will take until February or March to be able to complete the first phase of vaccinations, which is dependent on the availability of the vaccine. According to Rhode Island health officials, approximately 14,000 doses are arriving in the state per week, which is enough to vaccinate 1.5 percent of the population.
