East Greenwich Storm Center: Parking Ban In Effect; School Cancelled
Check back here throughout the storm for updates on what's happening in EG.
Tuesday, 6:35 p.m. – School has been cancelled for Wednesday, Supt. Victor Mercurio announced Tuesday night. By 6 p.m. Tuesday, there were already 2 inches on the ground and as much as 10 inches anticipated by the end of storm Wednesday.
For students of East Greenwich High School, that means one extra day of studying – exams will shift from Wednesday-Thursday to Thursday-Friday.
Tuesday, 5:16 p.m. – If your trash day is Wednesday (usually Tuesday, but pushed back a day because of the MLK holiday), trash WILL be collected, according to DPW's Joe Duarte. The trash collectors won't be picking up until later in the day, however, so Duarte asks residents to wait until Wednesday morning to put out trash cans, to make it easier for the plows.
Tuesday, 4:27 p.m. – Town plows are already at work cleaning the roads. Town Manager Tom Coyle said with snow already sticking to the ground, it made sense to keep a couple plows on the road with more added in coming hours. Coyle said no decision had yet been made about opening up town offices tomorrow.
The East Greenwich Free Library will close at 5 p.m. tonight. No announcement yet from the School Department regarding school tomorrow.
Tuesday, 1:25 p.m. – Tonight's School Committee meeting has been cancelled and after-school activities too.
Tuesday, 1:01 p.m. – A parking ban will begin today at 3 p.m. and will be in effect until further notice. The Land Trust meeting and the Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission meetings scheduled for this evening have been cancelled. Municipal Court, scheduled for Wednesday, January 22nd at 9:30 has been cancelled.
Tuesday, 12:55 p.m. – Snowfall projections have been steadily on the rise all weekend, and that trend has continued Tuesday. Much of Rhode Island is now projected to see up to a foot of snow. The storm is expected to start dumping snow across the area late Tuesday afternoon, intensifying overnight before coming to an end Wednesday morning.
Tuesday, Jan. 21, 8:54 a.m. – With temperatures this morning in the high teens and snow on the way, winter is making a big comeback.
A winter storm warning will go into effect at 1 p.m. today to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Snow will start this afternoon, but the heaviest snow is not expected until evening.
Monday, Jan. 20, 5:31 p.m. – A snowstorm forecasted to start Tuesday night is shaping up to be a bit more than just an inch or two across much of Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. The so-called “jackpot” area is expected to span from the Tiverton-Little Compton area through Cape Cod. For more on this story, click here.
