EG Animal Protection League Wants New Home

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League has been sharing space with Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital since 1980 but they've decided it's time to get their own space.

Director Tammy Flanagan said they've been looking for a new place for more than a year. Starting Jan. 1, Greenwich Bay is raising rates on a variety of services. Flanagan said that gave the EGAPL an extra push to find something.

"We've just grown so much in the last five years, that we've outgrown Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital," said Flanagan.

The EGAPL provides temporary shelter for stray cats and dogs found in East Greenwich and other communities. It also takes in puppies from places in the Southeastern U.S. that would otherwise euthanize the animals.

The Town of East Greenwich gave the EGAPL $19,000 for the current fiscal year.

While they would prefer to remain in East Greenwich, Flanagan said they'd been looking in North Kingstown and Warwick too. 

"We would still, if we move out of East Greenwich, we would still serve the town of East Greenwich," she said. "We won't walk away from East Greenwich."
