“2016 will be huge for my wife Michelle and I and everyone involved with Verdi Productions,” Verdi said. “We have four great films coming out this year starting with ’Bad Hurt.’ I truly believe one or more of these films could receive an Oscar nomination in 2016.”
Those films include the highly-anticipated “Bleed for This,” which follows the remarkable comeback story of legendary Rhode Island boxer Vinny Paz, who defied the odds when he reclaimed a heavyweight championship belt after breaking his neck in a car accident.
After Bad Hurt, Verdi Productions will release “Yellow,” starring Sienna Miller and described as ”a dark and surreal comedy that follows the story of a substitute teacher who escapes reality by fantasizing about a parallel world.” Ray Liotta, Melanie Griffith, Lucy Punch, Gena Rowlands, and David Morse round out the impressive ensemble cast.
After “Bleed for This,” the production company will release ”Silence,” directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield in a 17th century-set story of two Jesuit priests who face persecution when they go to Japan to find a mentor and spread the gosptel of Christianity.
Paramount will release ”Silence” later in 2016.
Verdi, when he’s not working on myriad film projects, has used his company headquarters in East Greenwich as a venue for high-profile fundraisers, hosting former President Bill Clinton in December to raise money for the Hillary for President campaign.
