EG Rec Department: Fall Programs

Registration opens Aug. 29.

From the Town of East Greenwich: The East Greenwich Parks & Recreation Department has announced its 2017 Fall programs. Registration will begin on line and for all prior mailed and hand delivered paper registration forms, on August 29, 2017. If you need an online account set up can do that by submitting the online request form ahead of time, so come the first day of registration you are all set to go. Paper registration forms should be delivered prior to August 29th and will be enrolled lottery style on August 29th. Session one begins September 11th for most classes. Classes have a limited enrollment, so early registration is suggested.

Youth athletic and fitness programs include Squeaky Sneakers on Tuesdays from 9:30-10:15am for ages 2-3½ where children will play games while learning to follow directions and develop their fine and gross motor skills. All Sports on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30am for ages 3-5 will have children learning a different sport/ activity each week. Parent –Child Gymnastics and Pre-school Gymnastics for beginners are offered for children ages 1-5 and focuses on the proper techniques in tumbling, balance and more. The Parent-Child class is held on Thursdays for the 1-3 year olds at 9:45am and the 3-5 year old class is at 9:00am. Pre-School Tennis lessons for 3-5 year olds takes place on Wednesdays from 9:30-10:15am. Youth Tennis Lessons, on Mondays take place from 4:15-5:15pm for ages 6-8 and 5:15-6:15pm for 9-12 years old. Let’s Play Yoga for youth in grades K-2 is offered on Thursdays from 4:00-5:00pm at Swift Gym.

Youth Arts and Learning programs include What’s Out There? A nature exploration class on Thursdays from 1:30-2:15pm for ages 3-5. Children 3-5 should come spend the afternoon creating art projects in Messy Crafts on Mondays from 1:30-2:15pm. Family Music Time is a time for children ages 1-5 along with their parent to be introduced to singing, chants, listening, patterns and instrument play. Class is held Wednesdays from 9:15-10:00am.

A series of dance classes are available this session and include: Dance with Me for ages 18-36 month olds along with their parents on Fridays at 9:30am, Creative Dance for 3-5 year olds on Fridays at 10:00am, Tap & Ballet for 3-5 year olds on Fridays at 10:45am and for 6-11 year olds on Tuesdays at 4pm, and Hip Hop classes for 11-14 year olds on Tuesdays at 3:15pm. In session II Jazz and Acro is offered on Tuesdays for 6-11 year olds at 4pm and for 11-14 year olds at 3:15pm.

A four day EG Babysitter’s Class will be offered for children ages 10 & up. Youths will be certified in first aid and CPR. This class will teach safe sitting techniques and qualities that make up a good sitter. Class is held on Wednesdays between November 1st and 15th from 4:00-5:30 and on Friday, November 10th from 9am-1pm. My First Stitches a youth sewing class which incorporates machine work, patter layout, and sewing techniques takes place on Mondays from 4-5pm for ages 7-12.

Adult and Senior Programs include Body Conditioning on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9-10am for an aerobic workout. Stability Ball Fitness is offered on Mondays at 10:00am where participants will receive work on core strength and improve balance. Define Yourself! classes are held Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-10:45am. This class develops strength and core stability to keep you agile and strong. Stretch & Relax will include a full body stretch with a gentle and slow flow of static stretches and breathing on Thursdays at 9:15am. Pilates is held on Mondays at 10am and Yoga is offered on Wednesdays at 10:15am

Zumba Fitness is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15-6:15pm and Saturdays at 9:30am, where participants will fuse hypnotic Latin and international music for a fun and effective aerobic dance workout. Hula Hoop Fitness uses adult sized and weight hoops to fitness and meditation and it offered on Tuesdays at 6:30pm. Pound Fit is a new fitness fad that uses ripstix for a full body workout that combines cardio, conditioning and strength training. Ripstixs are provided for use in class. This class is held on Wednesdays at 5:30pm.

Adult Tennis Lessons are offered on Tuesdays for beginners from 9:30-10:30am and for intermediate players from 10:30-11:30am. Cardio Tennis for adults is a high energy class which combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercises. This class is held on Thursdays for beginners at 9:30am and for the intermediate player at 10:30am. A new Tennis Drill & Play class is 30 minutes of tennis drills followed by 45 minutes of coached match play for the intermediate/advanced player on Wednesdays at 1pm.

The Ramblers- Hiking Group departs each Thursday for different hiking spots in the State starting September 7th and up until November 16th at 9:00am. First Aid, CPR & AED Classes take place October 3rd (CPR &AED) from 6-9pm and October 10th (first aid) from 6-8pm for ages 16 & over.

Adult and Senior trips for the Fall season include a tour of the DeCorva Sculpture Garden and Museum in Lincoln, MA on Wednesday, September 13th from 9:45-3:30pm, a Cross Sound Ferry Lighthouse Cruise out of New London on Wednesday, October 18th from 10:40-3:20pm., and a pedaling tour with the Rail Explorers which takes the group along the railroad tracks on a rail bike in Portsmouth, RI on Friday, October 27th from 9:00-1:30pm.

Athletic Pick Up Nights start up again with the High School aged basketball on Wednesdays from 8-10pm, Men’s 35+ Pick-Up Basketball on Monday nights from 8-10pm, Co-ed adult Pick-up Volleyball on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30pm, Co-ed adult Pick-Up Badminton on Wednesdays from 8-10pm, Co-ed adult Pick Up Pickleball on Tuesdays at 5pm, and Men’s Pick Up Flag Football on Sundays at 11am. Pre-Registration is required for all athletic nights.

Do not delay in signing up for these classes and programs, as they do fill quickly. Flyers were mailed to East Greenwich residents the week of August 14th.
