Help East Greenwich Girls Fund-raise to Cure Blood Cancer!

Local high school students need your help to reach their $15,000 goal in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year Campaign.

Hello, my name is Kayla So and I am one of the co-candidates of Student of the Year, along with Caroline Cheng and Caroline McAndrew. We are juniors at East Greenwich High School who are trying to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year (SoY) is a 10-week philanthropy program running from April 6th to June 16th in which high school students participate in a competition to benefit LLS. We compete with other candidates across the state to win the title of Student(s) of the Year by raising the most money. Students, like us, are able to develop their leadership skills through this selfless challenge. Each candidate team finds unique ways to raise as much funds as possible to fight blood cancer.

LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. With a mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families, it is at the forefront of funding cancer research, as well as the leading source of free blood cancer information. In order to provide the best services to patients, LLS relies on donations. Each year, the organization hosts multiple creative fundraising programs to encourage the community to be involved with finding the cure for blood cancer.

Curing blood cancer is a mission that is close to our hearts. Our devotion to this cause stems from the story of one our friends, Gema Santizo, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma last year. Although we were all very shocked about her diagnosis, I remember how the the community came together to collect funds to help her in anyway possible. The unified support coming from classmates, parents, and neighbors is unforgettable. Thankfully, Gema is now in recovery and continues to be our inspiration for participating in the SoY campaign.

Our goal is to raise at least $15,000 by June 16th. We can achieve this with the help of members from our community. We are humbled to be nominated as candidates, and our team, East Greenwich Girls, hope to win the title of Students of the Year so that we can represent the town of East Greenwich to through this platform.
