Last Week In EG: Fire Chief Gone & Contract Settled, Car Breaks, Lawn Chemicals

East Greenwich Fire Chief Peter Henrikson, who began his service to the town as a junior firefighter in 1981 and became chief in 2010, will retire effective Sept. 19. The Town Council voted 5-0 to approve his separation agreement.
Council Approves New Firefighter ContractThe Town Council approved a new, three-year contract with the firefighters union, less than three months after the town took over management of fire operations. The action came the same night councilors approved a separation agreement with Fire Chief Peter Henrikson.

The new program switching to every-other-week pick up for recyclables begins next Monday, Sept. 23, and many residents have received their new, 96-gallon recycle containers ... but not everyone. The Department of Public Works is asking those who have NOT yet received a new bin to contact them, either by phone or email (see contact info below).
Police Log: Car Breaks Between Cedar, HowlandWednesday, Sept. 4, 7:27 a.m. – A Gladridge Drive resident told police several items were taken from her car while it was parked in her driveway overnight. It had not been locked, she said.
