Monday Essentials: Avenger Football, Council & School Meetings

Your guide for life in East Greenwich this week.

New recycling bins coming THIS week: Starting today, the Public Works Dept. will be dropping off the new, blue 96-gallon recycle bins for you to use every other week. You should put your recycling on the curb as usual this week. Pickup under the new system (i.e. automated trucks) begins the week of Sept. 23. If you want to get rid of your old containers after this week, you can drop them at the EG Highway Garage on Bear Swamp Road off Frenchtown Road on Saturday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 19, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. 

On Monday …

EG Farmers Market: The market, with fresh vegetables and fruits; locally raised beef, pork, poultry and seafood; baked goods and prepared foods, is a great place to pick up food for the week, visit with friends and neighbors and let the kids run around. On the Rector Street side of Academy Field. From 3 to 6 p.m.

Town Council meeting: On the agenda is approval of two outstanding town union contracts, a vote on the $53,000 engineering contract for diagnosis of the problems with the Main Street fire station’s floor. The meeting takes place at Town Hall at 8 p.m., after an executive session in which town manager candidates will be interviewed. The full agenda is here.

School Committee meeting: The panel meets in a special session on strategic planning in the conference room at Cole Middle School at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday …

Affordable Housing Commission meeting: The panel meets at Town Hall at 3 p.m. You’ll find the agenda here.

Historic District Commission meeting: The agenda is full with mainly residential items, 10 in total. At Town Hall, 7 p.m. You’ll find the full agenda here.

West Bay Open Studios show: The Warwick Art Museum is showcasing the works of many local artists who are part of the October West Bay Open Studios Tour. Artists include Marjorie Ball and Alice Benvie-Gebhart. 6 p.m.

On Thursday …

Municipal Court: The town's court meets once a month and today's the day. At 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Avenger Home Action: The Girls Volleyball team plays Cranston West at 6:30 (varsity) and 4:45 p.m. (JV). The Girls Field Hockey team plays NKHS at 6:30 (varsity) and 5:30 (JV). For all the EGHS Avenger action, check out the Booster Club’s website here.

On Friday …

Goddard Park Farmers Market: The market at Goddard Park is back. It’s a great way to get ready for the weekend. Off Ives Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Avenger Home Action: The Girls Tennis against Mt. St. Charles at 3:30 p.m. Boys Soccer team plays Classical at 4 p.m. (varsity) and 6 p.m. (JV).
