New England Tech Taps William Shatner For Commencement Speaker
The actor who played Capt. James T. Kirk on Star Trek will speak to the graduates about "hope in a time of change," the school said.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — New England Institute of Technology is bringing some serious star power to its May 6 graduation ceremony. William Shatner, the actor best known for his roles on Star Trek, Boston Legal, and now Better Late Than Never, will be the commencement speaker at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. He'll also receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.
"His message will be one of hope in a time of change as he encourages students to be alert to opportunities in a rapidly changing world--something at which he has excelled," the school said. "The Canadian-born actor’s success spans seven decades of television, film and stage roles." He's also written books and produced records and other media.
The school's 77th graduation ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at 1 La Salle Square, Providence.
