Puppies and Pageant Queens Support East Greenwich Animal Group

Pageant Queens Aid Shelter!

(East Greenwich, Rhode Island)

It was a parade of puppies and pageant queens – and a whole lot more – as many people turned out for a fundraiser supporting the East Greenwich Animal Protection League www.EGAPL.com.

Because East Greenwich has no municipal shelter, The EGAPL is the only refuge for homeless dogs and cats in the area.

“Our goal is to find suitable placement for all unclaimed stray adoptable cats and dogs,” said EGAPL President Tammy Flanagan. Among other things the shelter provides education on responsible pet ownership with its adoption practices.

Saturday’s event was billed as, “Cats, Crowns and Cotton Candy!” with Miss Rhode Island 2015 Alexandra Curtis, and Miss Rhode Island Outstanding Teen Catarina Girardi, making an appearance at the festivities (see photos).

“It’s just really great that there are people out here today, trying to find homes for these animals,” said Curtis, a former East Greenwich resident. Alexandra will compete for the title of Miss America in Atlantic City on Sunday September 13, on the ABC network. www.MissAmerica.org.

“I think it’s great that we are here drawing attention to adopting these beautiful animals today” said Girardi who lives in Cranston. Catarina will be competing for the title of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen on August 1, in Orlando, Florida. www.MissRI.org.

According to its mission statement: EGAPL is a no-kill rescue. We do not euthanize animals after a certain length of time or for treatable medical and behavioral issues. We provide for our animals’ boarding and medical needs for as long as is necessary.

Also joining in the festivities on Saturday was The Brandi Project, which supplies financial and educational support to dog-rescue organizations. Anyone wanting more information can visit The Brandi Project website at www.TheBrandiProject.com.

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is accepting donations and volunteers.
