Rec Department Offers Trips and Fun Classes Over December Vacation
Ninja Warrior Training is one of the many opportunities.

EAST GREENWICH, RI—Looking for something for the children to do over December holidays? The Parks and Recreation Department has it covered.
"The East Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department is offering four days of trips and activities for area children, in grades 1-6, during the December Vacation week. Children may sign up for a whole day of activities or simply a trip or a project. Registration begins on Friday, December 2, 2016.
"Activities begin on Tuesday, December 27th with a visit from Mad Science as they host a workshop in the Parks and Recreation Program Room. Children discover and learn about circuits and conductivity. The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

On Tuesday afternoon the group heads off to Discovery Depot in Connecticut. Participants dig for gems in a mine, unearth a dinosaur skeleton and visit the Gateway Museum, ensuring a fun, hands on experience! The bus departs at 11:45 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m.
On Wednesday, December 28, there is a trip to Clayground, where the group picks a ceramic piece to paint and decorate. Pieces are then put in the kiln and ready for pick up at a later date. The bus departs the Parks and Recreation office at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 11 a.m.

On Wednesday afternoon the group is off to United Skates of America for Roller-Skating. The bus departs the Parks and Recreation Office at 12:30 p.m. and return at 4 p.m.
On Thursday, December 29th, there is be a trip to the Dream Big Academy in Cranston for Ninja Warrior Training. Children are put to the test trying their best at the obstacle course that mimics that of the popular TV show American Ninja Warrior. The bus departs the Parks and Recreation Office at 9:10 a.m, and returns at 11:20 a.m.
Thursday afternoon the group heads off to the Movies to view the movie “Sing”, an animated film with animals competing in a singing competition. Movie times have not been released at the time of printing, so participants will be contacted once it is confirmed.
On Friday, December 30th children enjoy a visit to one of the oldest zoos in the country, the Roger Williams Park Zoo, to investigate the animals in the colder weather. The bus departs the office at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 12:15 p.m.
Friday afternoon come to an early New Year’s Eve Countdown. Each half hour the group does a different activity until the clock strikes “midnight” and the party begins. The countdown lasts from 12:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Children needing a longer day of supervision can sign up for the extended day option. The office will be open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Children signed up for the extended day option, participate in the scheduled trips and activities listed above. No alternative activities are planned, so sign up now to secure a spot as space is limited. There is an extra $10 fee per day for all day care.

"East Greenwich residents may sign up online as long as they have a pre-approved online account. To get a pre-approved account, submit an online account request form to the office prior to the sign up date. For paper registrations get your form to the office before the first day of registration as the office starts enrolling lottery style on December 2, 2016. Your best chance of getting your selection is via the online process as classes fill on a first come basis and the office can only process forms one at a time. Camper-ships and reduced fees are available for those on public assistance. Flyers and registration forms are available at the office, the Town Hall, or on the web at www.eastgreenwichri.com.
