Rock Climbing Event Brings American Ninja Warrior To Local Kids

A pro football player and American Ninja Warrior contestant will speak at a rock climbing event for diabetic kids on Saturday.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — A former professional football player and American Ninja Warrior contestant will speak at a special event for local kids with diabetes on Saturday. The rock climbing event was organized by a local doctor for Rhode Island kids living with Type 1 diabetes.

Brandon Denson has not let his Type 1 Diabetes hold him back since his diagnosis in high school, becoming the star lineback at Michigan State University and playing football professionally in the Canadian Football League before competing on American Ninja Warrior. At the event, Denson will talk to kids about how he manages to control his diabetes as an athlete.

The free rock climbing event will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Central Rock Gym in Warwick. 100 kidswith diabetes and their families have registered to take part. The venet was organized by Dr. Stephen Scott, a local doctor and rock climber.

Scott founded the organization Rock Type 1 after his son Liam was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age seven. Despite their concerns for Liam's health, Scott and his family climbed Mt. Rainier in 2018 to raise awareness and funds for Insulin For Life USA. Donations of insulin supplies will be collected at the event to benefit the organization.
