University Orthopedics Signs Multi-Year Partnership with Eastern Connecticut Conference

The Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) has signed a multi-year partnership with University Orthopedics to become the Exclusive Orthopedics Partner of the ECC.
The partnership will cover the entirety of the ECC’s footprint which covers southeastern and northeastern Connecticut. University Orthopedics will be supporting ECC events and have a presence at all Conference Tournaments.
“We are excited to partner with an organization like the Eastern Connecticut Conference that provides such an important role in the lives of thousands of student-athletes and their families. Our locations in Westerly and Johnston serve these communities and we look forward to growing our partnership in the years to come,” said Edward Akelman, MD, President of University Orthopedics.
“The health and safety of the student-athletes are paramount to our mission,” said Gary Makowicki, Commissioner of the ECC. “The opportunity to enhance that mantra with the expertise and support of University Orthopedics is welcomed and valued.”
Through this partnership, University Orthopedics will provide video content related to safe training methods, recovery, and other orthopedic health measures.

About The ECC
The Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) is an interscholastic athletic league made up of 19 member high schools, whose geographical footprint reaches from the Massachusetts border to the Long Island Sound and from the Rhode Island border to just east of the Connecticut River. The league sponsors 29 sports throughout the school year with each sport culminating in a league championship. Nearly 5,000 student-athletes compete yearly in the ECC. The ECC is a league steeped in history, producing countless CIAC State Champions. The league continues to be at the forefront of high school athletics in the state of Connecticut and is positioned to continue as a leader for years to come.

University Orthopedics (UOI, universityorthopedics.com), with clinic locations in Rhode Island (East Greenwich, East Providence, Johnston, Providence, Middletown, North Providence, and Westerly) and Massachusetts (Mansfield), is a regional center for orthopedics, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. UOI includes more than 45 board-certified orthopedic, fellowship-trained musculoskeletal, and sports medicine physicians. These specialists are faculty members of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University who teach medical students, orthopedic residents, and fellowship sub-specialty surgeons.
