What’s Open, Closed On New Year’s Day 2021 In Rhode Island

On New Year’s Day, Rhode Islanders will leave behind a year marked by unprecedented hardship and challenges. After spending much of the year navigating the once-in-a-lifetime coronavirus pandemic, many will no doubt welcome 2021 with open arms.

As we ring in the new year in our town, many local facilities and government offices will take the day off to recognize the start of the new year.

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed in Rhode Island on New Year’s:

• Liquor stores: Most open regular hours, at owner's discretion
• Grocery stores: Most open regular hours
• Convenience stores: Open at owner's discretion
• Restaurants, bars: Open at owner's discretion
• Banks: Closed
• Libraries: Closed
• Stock market: Closed
• Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed
• Mail: Post offices closed
• RIPTA: Sunday/Holiday schedule
• Trash Collection: Most towns with pickup are delayed by one day. Check with your local public works if you're unsure.
