About Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant: Since its premiere in 2009, Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant’s transcription of John Corigliano’s Grammy- winning work, Mr. Tambourine Man, for Wind Ensemble and Amplified Soprano, Schirmer, has received strong praise from the composer and received numerous performances. Currently, she serves as a Duke University associate professor of the Practice of Music, and director for the university’s Wind Symphony and undergraduate studies for the Music Department. She also conducts the Durham Medical Orchestra, and frequently is a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States, Japan and her native Austria. Mösenbichler-Bryant serves as executive director of the annual international World Youth Wind Orchestra Project (WYWOP), and the first World Adult Wind Orchestra Project (WAWOP) as part of the Mid-Europe festival in Schladming, Austria. She studied conducting for symphony orchestra at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, where she received her Bachelor of Arts with distinction. She completed her Master of Music in 2007 at Michigan State University, and her Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Ensemble Conducting from The University of Texas at Austin.
About Steven Bryant: Bryant’s music is chiseled in its structure and intent, fusing lyricism, dissonance, silence, technology and humor into lean, skillfully-crafted works that enthrall listeners and performers alike. Winner of the ABA Ostwald award and three-time winner of the NBA Revelli Award, his music for wind ensemble has reshaped the genre. A prolific composer, his substantial catalog of music is regularly performed throughout the world. Recently, Minnesota Orchestra premiered his Ecstatic Waterswas. The son of a professional trumpeter and music educator, he strongly values music education, and his creative output includes works for young and developing musicians. Bryant studied composition at Juilliard, and North Texas and Ouachita universities. He resides in Durham, N.C., with his wife, conductor Mösenbichler-Bryant.
