Town Of Exeter Financial Town Meeting Set For June 8
The town proposes to increase its property tax levy by 2.99 percent for fiscal 2021-2022.

EXETER, RI — The Town of Exeter will hold its annual financial town meeting on June 8 at 7 p.m. at Exeter-West Greenwich Junior/Senior High School.
The town proposes to increase its property tax levy to $13,460,106 in fiscal 2022, a proposed increase of 2.99 percent, according to a notice posted by Town Council President Daniel W. Patterson. Under state law, motor vehicle excise taxes are excluded for the purposes of determining tax levy growth.

The town has conducted a full revalutation as of Dec. 31, 2020, resulting in a property tax rate of $13.78 per $1,000 of assessed value. The current rate is $15.57. A rate of $13.91 would be needed in the coming budget year to raise the maximum levy allowed by state law, the notice states.
Exeter proposes a $17,005,496 municipal budget for fiscal 2022, compared with the current year's budget of $16,239,046, according to budget documents.

The upcoming year's budget and capital program was presented to the public on May 6. All electors of the town qualified to vote are invited to consider and act upon the proposed budget at the June 8 meeting.
