Man Dies Jumping From Jamestown Verrazanno Bridge

JAMESTOWN, RI — A man died Sunday night after jumping from the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge in Rhode Island.

North Kingstown Chief Scott Kettelle said police and fire departments received calls of a possible jumper on the bridge around 5 p.m.

The Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force and the fireboat apparatus North Kingstown Marine 5 conducted a search and found the middle aged man. The victim was transported to Wickford Town Dock where responders tried to resuscitate him. They continued their efforts to Kent County Hospital in Warwick, where the man was pronounced dead.

Advocates continue to push for suicide barriers on the Newport Pell, Mount Hope, and Jamestown Verrazano bridges.
