Bear Seen On Central Avenue In Johnston

Johnston Police posted a photo of the bear in a Central Avenue backyard on Monday evening.

JOHNSTON, RI — A bear was spotted in a Johnston neighborhood on Monday evening. Johnston police posted a photo showing the bear in the 700 block of Central Avenue. Residents are being encouraged to take precautions to stay safe.

The National Park Service said most bear will avoid humans if they hear them coming. The first step to stay safe is to always keep your distance from bears.

Bears are omnivores and will eat a variety of food, including berries, fruits, nuts, small animals, insects and more. According to the Farmer's Almanac, bears love birdseed and will knock down bird feeders to get it. Keep trash secured in covered bins and avoid leaving pets unattended outside.
