Bomb Squad Responds To Suspicious Package In Johnston

Police called in the bomb squad Sunday evening after a resident reported an unexpected package.

JOHNSTON, RI — A bomb squad responded to a home in Johnston Sunday after a resident reported a suspicious package to police, reported ABC6.

Police responded to the home near Putnam Pike and Pine Hill Avenue at approximately 6:15 p.m., according to Johnston Police Chief Joseph Razza. The are was temporarily blocked off during the investigation.

Because the resident was not expecting a package, a bomb squad was called out of an abundance of caution. The package was later cleared and found to contain security tags from Ulta Beauty in Smithfield.

Police are conducting an investigation of reports of shoplifting in Smithfield due to the contents of the package.
