Johnston Man Charged With Assault, Cocaine Possession: Police

JOHNSTON, RI — A Johnston man wanted on an outstanding warrant for domestic assault was charged with cocaine possession and motor vehicle violations during a State Police traffic stop on Valley Street in Providence on Saturday. State Police said Lewis Martinez, 29, was also detained on a parole violation pending a Monday arraignment.

State Police said troopers charged Martinez with cocaine possession, obstructing an officer and driving with a suspended license third offense. He was also arrested on an affidavit and warrant on domestic simple assault, domestic failure to relinquish a telephone and domestic disorderly charges out of Johnston, as well as failure to appear in court on charges of driving with a suspended license out of the State Police Hope Valley Barracks.

Martinez was transported to State Police Headquarters where he was processed and turned over to the Adult Correctional Institution.
